FREELAND Foundation is an international organization dedicated to stopping human and wildlife trafficking. Founded in 2000 and previously known as WildAid Foundation (Thailand) and PeunPa Foundation, we work in partnership with governments, communities, corporations, and other NGOs worldwide.
We build innovative responses to combat the illegal wildlife trade and habitat destruction. Our programs are designed to address the entire cycle of crimes against nature. This includes poaching and logging in protected areas, smuggling, and the subsequent sale and consumption of wildlife in urban areas.
Our commitment to the region runs deep: While several international NGOs working here have headquarters outside the region, FREELAND is the only international environmental and human rights organization headquartered in Asia with multi-national staff.
As of early 2009, our scope of work has been expanding, both geographically and thematically, challenging us to rethink our mission and branding. In addition to protecting natural habitats and preventing the illegal trade in endangered species, we are now helping communities, governments and international agencies tackle human trafficking whenever our skills and services can be used.
We have one of the most experienced and active environmental crime investigation and enforcement training teams in Southeast Asia. Our organization is well placed to contribute to the fight against this inhumane and exploitative trade, particularly given the similarities and increasing connections between trafficking crimes.
Indeed, as an organization that directly engages local communities with collaborative, development-sensitive approaches to preserve natural habitats and prevent illegal trade, we see this as a natural extension of our work.
To reflect our expanded charter, we have changed our name to FREELAND Foundation. International advertising firm JWT, a long-time pro-bono supporter of our organization, is guiding us through this brand transition. We’d like you to know that we are still the same friendly team, dedicated to projects for the good of the planet and humanity.
As FREELAND Foundation, we are committed doing even more to protect the rights, habitat and existence of all living beings in Southeast Asia and around the world. To succeed, we need your support more than ever. Together we can help the region -- and the world.
