Recent headlines remind us that our global biodiversity is at a tipping point. Two upcoming events present powerful opportunities to tip us in the right direction.
Horrific seizures of wildlife parts, like the 30 tons of shark fin confiscated last month in Brazil en-route to Asia; and positive news this week of rising tiger populations in India and Bhutan, all beg the question -- which direction are we going in? Making The World Safer For Wildlife
This National Geographic Article and interview with Freeland founder Steve Galster highlights the urgency of the search for Bach "Boonchai" Mai, who was recently sentenced to five years in prison by the Thai Supreme Court. Boonchai has long played a role in trafficking ivory, rhino horns, pangolin scales, tigers, and more.
Freeland launched the investigation into this Thai poaching kingpin years ago. Now, the manhunt begins. Please contact us with any tip-offs on his whereabouts, and if you'd like to help support this work, donate here:
Freeland's global training tour Helps task forces worldwide take on organized wildlife crime
Our global economy, security, and whole societies, are threatened by organized crime networks. These networks run trafficking operations that harm people and ecosystems, weaken governance, and strengthen corruption. Human and wildlife trafficking alone amount to $175 billion a year.
Freeland's Counter-Transnational Organized Crime (CTOC) program convenes law enforcers across agencies and borders and empowers them through case-based training to dismantle these criminal networks.
