WHAT: iTHINK is an awareness campaign encouraging Thai people to consider their role and share their thoughts about animal conservation and wildlife consumption. First introduced by Freeland in 2012, the iTHINK campaign is designed to inform, share and empower people to say no to buying endangered wildlife and wildlife products.
The launch will introduce four new ambassadors, chosen for their empathy towards wildlife and ability to reach out to a large spectrum of the public. They are helping spread the message in their own words. The ambassadors include: singer/actor Kong (Saharat), actress Noona (Nuengthida), renowned wildlife veterinarian from the Department of Parks, Wildlife and Plants conservation Lotter (Pattarapol), and respected marine biologist Dr. Thon (Thamrongnawasawat).
A series of video spots featuring our new ambassadors will debut at the event. WHEN: 2 - 4pm, Wednesday, September 30, 2015
WHERE: Quartier Water Garden, 5/F, EmQuartier, Sukhumvit Road, Bangkok
WHY: Thailand is a transit country and hotspot for wildlife trafficking. Wildlife is now the fourth biggest earner for criminal syndicates after drugs, arms and human trafficking. Elephant, tiger, rhino and shark populations are under threat globally. And here at home, Thailand's forests are being emptied of wildlife -- turtles, snakes and pangolins are quickly disappearing. The trade in exotic animals is also increasing and poachers are wiping out Thailand's valuable Rosewood trees. Consider this: Since 2009, 40 Thai rangers have been killed in action protecting Thai forests.
The trafficking and consumption of wildlife must stop now, before it's too late.
